Status Effect List

crit buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Crit Darkest Dungeon 2

Next Skill has 100% CRIT and ignores 20% RES

Unlike in the previous game title, Critical damage in Darkest Dungeon 2 is no longer affected by accuracy. This damage is guaranteed upon use of the token and is only affected by the opponents potential resistance abilities. However this crit damage token also ignores the 20% resistance abilities that any opponents may have in place. Crit chance in Darkest Dungeon previously had depended on upgraded weapon and armor stats, however with Weapon and Armor upgrades removed from Darkest Dungeon 2, it now relies on the equipped Skills.

Critical Damage maximizes damage dealt, dealing 150% of the original damage. Both Heroes and Enemies in Darkest Dungeon 2 have the ability to deal critical hits. Receiving a critical hit from enemies will also add on stress to characters, while other characters in the party will also be given a 50% to gain 5 Stress points themselves. On the other hand, dealing a successful critical hit will help with alleviating the dealers stress by 3 points while other party members have a 25% chance to alleviate the same amount as well. Other buffs when dealing critical hits is that dealing a hit will give them have a higher chance to apply status effects with up to 20% increased chance, and effects such as bleed and blight have a 50% increase in duration. Depending on the character class, landing a critical hit will also get a chance to receive a 2 round buff.

riposte buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Riposte Darkest Dungeon 2

Counter-attacks the next damaging attack

Riposte is a defensive effect that works like a Parry to an upcoming action or move dealt by an opposing member or enemy. Since all effects in Darkest Dungeon 2 are now granted as tokens, this effect is guaranteed to be dealt, however, if the target uses dodge, there is still a chance to miss. If successful, the user of Repose no longer receives damage from the initial attack, but regardless if it is dodged, The effects of this effect lasts for two turns, but is reset when using the Skills with the token.

Riposte tokens are rare and were known to be used in Skills by the Heroes, Man at Arms, and the Highwayman, notable defensive support heroes. Enemies in previous games have also been known to use Riposte such as the Esquire.

block buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Block Darkest Dungeon 2

Take -50%- -75% DMG from next hit

Block is a defense status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2 that has a guaranteed result upon use of the token. It allows players to anticipate an upcoming crit or high combat damage attack following turn and take preventative measure toe receive less damage. This is a guaranteed effect unlike the Dodge token. Where the dodge has a 50% rate of successfully blocking the whole attack, players must weight if the risk is worth having an incoming attack with a chance of  still receiving a hit, while block guarantees less damage and negative effects.

Just as Dodge has a greater equivalent to the base effect, there is a greater version of this status affect that prevents 75%, a 15% less damage intake known as Block +. These rare token status effect action should be used wisely and strategically

dodge buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Dodge Darkest Dungeon 2

50%- 75% chance to dodge next attack

Unlike the Block token that still absorbs a portion of incoming damage, this effect gives characters a chance to avoid the next attack completely and take no damage. This works like the Dodge stat in the previous title, Darkest Dungeon, that was also affected by accuracy, however the accuracy stat has since been removed in Darkest Dungeon 2. Dodge no longer has a base value depending on the Heroes' class and Armor and Weapon stats, since it is no longer considered a stat. Therefore, the dodge likeliness also does not increase by 5 points per character level. Dodge is now used as a token that can be found in some Skills and Trinkets. It is a very important token to use if anticipating an incoming crit attack. This is especially important to avoid receiving any stress for the team. Players must be strategic though when using this token, as they cannot be 100% guaranteed and only has a 50-75% success rate depending on whether the character has access to Dodge or Dodge +. Players can also consider the opposite token effect Blind, that debuffs a character that is affected giving them a 50% chance of missing their next attack. Rather than casting dodge on a member of a party, Blind can be used. Dodge is also indicated by the symbol before hand. So if an enemy has dodge on, and has a few enemy turns before him, characters will still have a chance to deal a skill that can remove his dodge before dealing an attack. Skills such as Tracking Shot will ignore dodge when dealt and remove dodge as well.

Just like how Block has a greater equivalent, Dodge also has a greater equivalent increasing a chararacter's chances 15%, with a total of a 75% chance to dodge the next incoming attack. This token is known as Dodge +. Keep in mind that not only Heroes have access to this ability and that Enemies may also dodge an attack.

strength buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Strength Darkest Dungeon 2

Next attack deals +50% damage

This effect token is an offensive affect that increases damage dealt to opponents. This is a guaranteed effect, that upon a landed hit will deal 50% more damage than a normal attack.

guarded buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75pxGuarded Darkest Dungeon 2

Protected by {o}

Guarded also known as Guard, is a status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2. Guarded is a defensive strategy effect that deplects incoming damage. This means that attacks are redirected from the target of damage, or any other effects to another character that is guarding. This could benefit combat if a specific hero's health or stats are particularly low and cannot afford another hit. Another hero can and step in and use guard to take all incoming effects in place of the target character. This effect is best used to balance out the team stats, and can last for three turns. Using it again during these three turns will restart the stat. This effect only affects the targeted character, however the character still indirectly receive attack through other AoE (Area of Effect) attacks if they are within range.

This effect is best used by tankier Heroes who's abilities and skills can take more effects or have the ability to heal themselves afterwards.

speed buff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Speed Darkest Dungeon 2

Acts faster next Round

Speed is a status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2. It can apply to a team and an individual character pushing their abilities first when taking turns in combat. A hero with speed is more likely to act faster- which means they will likely take their turn before another character, depending on their rank. While usually combat is turn based according to team rank and enemy team rank, this could also mean that the preferred character may take their turn before the next enemy in line, giving them an advantage.  However, there are also Hastened enemies that begin Combat with a speed buff. They will be indicated as "Hastened Enemies" and a predetermined Speed stat (eg. +X SPD) This could guarantee that enemies may take their turns first before any play and the order may be as follows: Enemy turn, Enemy turn, Enemy turn, Hero turn. This can be countered with another status effect Immobilize, which prevents the affected character from moving or being moved.

Players must be strategic with this ability as using it at the right time will be greatly advantageous to the team if a member had a valuable skill that would be beneficial to be played first rather than choosing from the set of Skills of the character intended to go first.

Debuffs

stun debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Stun Darkest Dungeon 2

Loses next action

Stun is a status effect found in Darkest Dungeon 2. A stunned enemy or ally loses their next action. This lasts one turn. A stunned character will have the symbol indicated above their head to indicate they will not be taking turn for the current round. This effect is used when predicting a devastating blow.

In addition to this debuff effect, characters affected by stun receive an after effect where they are granted an additional resistance buff to stun. This prevents back to back stun effects from recurring throughout the rounds. If a stun is dealt with this resistance effect in place, an additional 50% resistance is stacked on top of the the existing resistance, bringing it to 100%. This grants a temporary 100% immunity from any attempted stun attacks.

dazed debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Dazed Darkest Dungeon 2

Next turn will be delayed to the end of the Round

Dazed is a debuff status effect newly found in Darkest Dungeon 2. In previous titles, this debuff was only found in the PvP mode Butcher's Circus where there was no Speed effect. Daze granted different effects where in the mode where players choose which hero to use during their turns, a hero afflicted with this status could not be chosen till the very end. This time, it is found in regular combat and can affect both enemies and allies, granting the opposite effect of Speed. The next turn, if afflicted by daze will then be forced to the end of the round, which may affect its effectiveness. In Darkest Dungeon 2 where combat is turn-based- this could give a great advantage to the team that uses it strategically. A skill intended to be used next could then be delayed in time to insert another action to combat, deflect or block the delayed action when used. This is countered with Move Resistance. Since enemies themselves have the ability to cast a dazed effect, heroes with high move resistance are most likely unable to be pushed into a different rank position keeping their turn during the round unchanged.

blind debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Blind Darkest Dungeon 2

50% chance to miss next attack

Blind is a debuff status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2. It works oppositely to the buff, Dodge. Blind is an effect usually afflicted upon enemies so that they have a 50% chance to miss their next attack. If this effect is not available Block uses similar mechanics that can be casted on specific allies instead to gain a 50% chance of dodging the next incoming attack, making their odds almost the same. However if players can accurately predict the next enemy to take a turn, choosing Blind may be more advantageous, and players can consider if their dodge effect affects all allies or just one target ally. Players with the greater dodge effect, Dodge + may also consider that this has a 15% higher chance of dodging.  These effects can also be casted by Enemies unto Heroes, but having a debuff resistance will help counter the likelihood of this effect following through.

weak debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Weak Darkest Dungeon 2

Next attack deals -50% DMG

Weak is a debuff stat found in Darkest Dungeon 2. When used on enemies, it works with similar benefits to Block. An enemy action afflicted with Weak has 50% less effectiveness. Similarly, an ally with Block active will also take 50% less damage. A note to consider is that Block has a greater equivalent, Block +, which increases the damage reduction to 75%. The debuff, Weak can be used defensively when strategically used against enemies, and anticipating the next high damage attack.

vulnerable debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Vulnerable Darkest Dungeon 2

Takes +50% DMG from next hit

Vulnerable is a debuff status effect found in Darkest Dungeon 2. Its intended use is to afflict enemies with vulnerability in order to maximize the damage received by opponents. Similarly, a character can also have strength to deal 50% DMG maximizing he damage given instead. Enemies also have the ability to make party members Vulnerable. Skills such as Bolster, dealt by the Man at Arms will remove the vulnerable affect on any team member that has the token. At an upgraded state, this also has the potential to reduce stress.

marked for death debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Marked for Death Darkest Dungeon 2

Takes +30% DMG from Bullseye Barett's attacks

Marked for Death in Darkest Dungeon 2 is an effect usually dealt by enemies to target Heroes. Bullseye Barretts are mostly referred to attacks dealt by Marksman enemies. A Hero with this effect will take more damage from these attacks.

taunt debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Taunt Darkest Dungeon 2

Enemies are forced to attack this target if able

Taunt works like a regular taunt mechanic in other games. Taunt is a debuff status effect usually casted on opponents in darkest Dungeon 2 that forces a targeted enemy to attack the target with taunts. This is a strategic move that could waste any skill if knowing a specific hero or character has a skill or ability to defend themselves against a potential attack. This could render their attack useless or less effective when forced to use an attack at the current turn. This also prevents the targeted enemy from using any other strategic abilities that would be more favorable to them. Having taunt at a round with Man at Arms will be especially beneficial as the Man at Arms, known as a tankier Hero usually best at defensive positions will be able to absorb any devasting attacks instead of another team member.

immobilize debuff status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Immobilize Darkest Dungeon 2

Cannot move or be moved.

In Darkest Dungeon 2, Immobilize is a status effect debuff that is a direct counter to Speed. While a character with speed will be able to take their actions first, being immobilized will force them to take their turn at the original intended position if immobilized first.  Though this effect is sorted as a debuff, it could have beneficial effects when used to your advantage. For example a character might have a new position change due to speed. A newly Immobilized character will not be able to be moved from that position either should an enemy want to use Dazed. Immobilize can also be countered with move resistance. A character with high Move Resistance will most likely unable to be moved or pushed into a different rank position.

winded special status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Winded Darkest Dungeon 2

Attacks deal -33% DMG and SPD is reduced by 3 for each Winded Token

Winded has a double debuff effect and is a special status effect token in Darkest Dungeon 2. The targeted receiver of this effect is forced to deal attacks at -33% less damage and will be forced to take their turn later due to their reduced Speed. Winded can be found as a negative effect on Heroes rather than enemies with some skills. With some skills it can apply this effect to its user, trading some positive effects while accepting windeds negative effects. A skill like Barbaric YAWP! is an example of a Skill that has other main positive effects, but the hero becomes affected with winded as a result. Winded is an effect most commonly seen with in the Skills unlocked by the Hero, Hellion.

combo special status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Combo Darkest Dungeon 2

Triggers additional Skill effects when targeted

The combo effect is a special status effect in Darkest Dungoen that can like apply follow up effects or bonuses if the hero uses a skill that with the combo token and hits a target. Targeting an enemy with this combo token may buff this attack. An example would be that as a Grave Robber with Poison Dart, using that on the enemy that has the Combo token, buffs the attack with a +50% CRIT damage. This type of effect allows players to follow up with additional skill effects. The Man at Arms would be another beneficial skill to consider with this token. Strategic Withdrawal is a skill that allows the hero to move back 1 rank down, as well as damaging the enemy selected and applies the Combo effect. This skill is best used if another hero that can benefit from the combo effect is up next in the lineup after you act. Example, use the Strategic Withdrawal to attack, move back, and apply the combo effect, and follow up with a hero such as the Grave Robber to attack with her Poison Dart skill. If the Poison Dar skill is mastered, hitting the enemy affected with the Combo token grants her attack with +50% CRIT.

controlled burn special status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Controlled Burn Darkest Dungeon 2

Inflicts burn 2 on monsters in this Rank at the start of their Turn'.

Controlled burn is a special status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2 that inflicts Burn on monsters. This means that it triggers the Burn effect towards the targeted enemy that lasts for 2 turns. Burn is another DoT (damage over time) status effect that is similar to BLD and BLIGHT that reduces HP during the hero's or enemy's turn. This can be affected by burn resistance, which determines how likely they are to be set in flames from fire/burn based enemy attacks.

stealth status effects darkest dungeon 2 wiki guide 75px Stealth Darkest Dungeon 2

Cannot be directly targeted by most enemy Skills

Stealth is an existing status effect in Darkest Dungeon 2 that had been carried over from the previous title stats. In Early Access, this is the only status effect with its own category in stealth. This effect is mostly found on skills unlocked by the Grave Robber. Enemies also have the ability to be in stealth. Some enemies may even appear with the effect already in place upon encountering them. However, because stealth is one of the Grave Robber's strengths, one of her starting Skills, Thrown Dagger. When the skill is in use the hero, then has the ability to ignores enemies that are in Stealth mode and it also removes the effect. "Since you know how to hide behind the shadows, you definitely know how to force enemies to reveal themselves." Strategically this is to prevent being the target of an upcoming devastating attack or effect. Aside from the Grave Robber's skills, some Quirks also give the ability to bypass and ignore an opponent in stealth, some even completely wiping the effect off so that other heroes are then free to target then enemy that was once in stealth.
