The Seething Sigh is a Boss in Darkest Dungeon 2. It is the final boss fight at the end of the Mountain through the Cathedral on Rank 2. Bosses are special Enemies that are uniquely named and must be defeated in order to unlock new areas, to progress the game, and to obtain various rewards.   • The Seething Sigh is the final boss of Darkest Dungeon 2 located at the end of the Mountain.

  • As this boss is the last encounter of every successful run, it doesn't give any loot, only hope at the end of the run if the player achieve to beat him.

Sundering Exhalation

The boss will put a Breath token on one of the two "lungs", to erase the label you must:

  • Damage them sufficiently

If you do not it will do a high damage AoE called "Sundering Exhalation"

Notes

If both lungs are destroyed it will spam the remaining abilities but at slightly higher damaging in a kind of mild "enrage".

Lungs do not need to be killed to win.

A skill to block shield gain or remove positive tokens has some value in case the boss spams Blind Rage and constantly gives itself Block+.

Strategy Writeup

This is basically a marathon damage race, you'll need to consistently do 15+ damage to one lung every round while also damaging the boss.

Characters with attacks which can reach front rank AND back rank are strongly recommended as otherwise you may be entirely unable to mitigate Breath token & Sundering Exhalation damage.

Target the lung with the Breath token and damage the boss as you can.

At low HP the boss's moveset alters and some attacks will hit two slots rather than only one.

Not much more to it really.

Notes

Lungs are immune to all status damage effects so do not bring characters excessively focused on this unless they are solely attacking the boss and/or supporting.

Attacks which can only target front rank should not be your exclusive damage since boss sits in ranks 2&3.

Burning the lungs down is not necessary or especially helpful since together they have 400+ HP and if you can spam that much damage you should just focus the boss.

Character Specific Notes
  • Highwayman
    • Pros: Very strong for this fight, has good damage across all ranks, can self buff damage to target Breath token well.
      • Very good back rank damage with Pistol Shot, pairing with a character who buffs damage (Strength or Crit) or can apply Vulnerable advised
      • Has access to trinkets which can buff damage (Greater Sharpness Charm, Raven's Reach)
    • Cons:
      • Point Blank Shot is only useful if melee skills are also taken because otherwise he will be locked into useless actions in the front rank quite often.
  • Duelist
    • Pros:
      • Flick can pierce the boss's Block+
      • Coupe De Grace can apply vulnerable to Distant Lung
      • High damage overall
    • Cons:
      • Very low HP, may even be 1-shot by Sundering Exhalation
