Strategy Writeup

The Heroes used for this guide are the ones who can deal DOT with different status effects and can manage the team's stress, increase Blight and Bleed resistance, and overall heal the team. Heroes such as the Leper and Grave Robber can be helpful as it removes/ignores the Block token on an enemy. The Plague Doctor supports the team by inflicting Blight damage with the skill Noxious Blast, and can help in increasing Blight and Bleed resistance, and overall heals the team.

Recommended Team Lineup:

The Shambler is placed at the front rank by itself at the start of the battle. Your Heroes will be the first ones to make their move, and then it's the Shambler's turn. After its turn, it will spawn 2 Shambler Tentacles, which will help the Shambler in fighting and crippling the heroes. The Shambler Tentacles will constantly attack your heroes while simultaneously applying the Block token status effect on themselves. These Shambler Tentacles are tough to deal with because even if you've managed to eliminate them, they will keep spawning back after the Shambler's turn, so the main goal is to eliminate the Shambler as quickly as possible to prevent it from spawning more tentacles.

The game plan should focus on laying down Bleed, Blight, or Burn status effects on the Shambler while simultaneously dealing damage to either one of the Shambler Tentacles. The Shambler has moderate resistance to everything except for Stun, which is 100. Since the encounter will start with the Heroes taking the first 4 turns, maximize inflicting damage and use Skills or Combat Items that can inflict Bleed, Blight, or Burn status effects on the Shambler while it's positioned at the front rank. Take note that there's still a chance that the Shambler can resist these effects since it has moderate resistance to almost everything. Before the encounter, try equipping at least 1 combat item per hero to maximize this opportunity. Use the combat items before using your desired skill, this way you get to do twice the damage on the first round. For example, the first turn goes to the Plague Doctor, use the combat item Ichor Bomb first, this item can inflict Blight status effect, and then use her skill Noxious Blast to stack up on the Blight damage. Use this tactic so that when it's the Shambler's turn, different status effects that deals DOT can help whittle down is health before it spawns its pesky tentacles.

Once the 2 Shambler Tentacles are spawned, you have to watch out for its attacks namely Clapperclaw and Wriggling Feast. Clapperclaw allows the Shambler Tentacle to target 1 hero from the rear and inflicts damage. Wriggling Feast allows the Shambler Tentacle to inflict damage and applies a Weak status effect on the selected hero. Both of these abilities will grant the Shambler Tentacle using the ability a Block token after its turn. Use a skill that could ignore or remove the Block token, such as the Grave Robber's skill Pick to the Face or the Leper's skill Break.

The Shambler's skills are also tough to deal with since all of its skills consists of targeting all of the party members. Undulating Withdrawal and Obdurous Advancement, both of these skills are offensive attacks that deal damage to all heroes, Undulating Withdrawal inflicts Blight, while Obdurous Advancement deals Bleed. Using the Plague Doctor's skill Ounce of Prevention is useful to counter Undulating withdrawal as it helps in granting the team Blight resistance. But if your heroes have already been hit, you can use the Plague Doctor's skill Battlefield Medicine to cure the Blight. The Plague Doctor's skill Battlefield Medicine can help cure the Bleed token effect inflicted on the selected heroes. You can also use the skill Ounce of Prevention to grant all your heroes with Bleed resistance. Stentorious Lament is also a skill that damages all the party members and also shuffles their position. Make sure that you can spend a turn where you can move your characters around before this skill could be activated.

In summary, focus on laying down Bleed, Blight, or Burn status effects on the Shambler while simultaneously dealing damage to either one of the Shambler Tentacles. Try to eliminate the Shambler as quickly as possible to prevent it from spawning more tentacles. The Shambler is placed at the front rank by itself at the start of the battle, so maximize inflicting damage and use Skills or Combat Items that can inflict Bleed, Blight, or Burn status effects on the Shambler while it's positioned at the front rank. Often use skills and combat items that can heal, remove negative status effects, and also buff your heroes from time to time. The Shambler is one of the tougher bosses to deal with in Darkest Dungeon 2, hopefully this guide could help you overcome this difficult battle.
